The snaffle bit is one of Gucci's very first emblems. Guccio Gucci worked at the Savoy in London before founding his leather goods company in Florence in 1921, and he brought back a taste for the English equestrian world: the straps, the buckles, the bits. The Horsebit motif has adorned the house's loafers since 1953 and has never left its collections since.
This Snaffle Bit model uses it as the starting point for its entire construction. The gold bit, mounted on the front, serves as a functional clasp: it is what you grasp to open the flap. Around it, the leather is perforated and studded in brogue patterns — those decorative perforations inherited from English footwear — that draw frames and lines across the entire surface of the bag. On the side, a leather tassel ends in a section of varnished bamboo and a braided leather knot: two other historical signatures of the house united on the same accessory.
The Snaffle Bit line is no longer produced, making it a true archive piece today, sought after for this density of house codes rarely brought together on a single bag. Beyond being a collector's item, it remains very practical: 31 cm wide, 10 cm deep, a beige cotton canvas lining with two slip pockets and one zip pocket. It easily accommodates a phone, a long wallet, a glasses case, a passport, keys, lipstick, and AirPods. The shoulder strap, adjustable up to 90 cm, makes it ideal for shoulder carry.
Nice general condition, grade B — the bag shows slight signs of previous use consistent with its age. The smooth off-white leather is clean, the corners and underside are in good condition. There is a slight mark on the front, subtle but visible in the photos. The gold-tone hardware is in good condition with micro-scratches from use, the flap closes correctly, and the interior shows only slight signs of use on the underside of the flap.
